IDEA Public Schools in the Rio Grande Valley celebrated the second day College Signing Day 2025 at the McAllen Convention Center on May 15. Seniors from IDEA Edinburg, IDEA Brownsville, IDEA Quest, and IDEA Weslaco started the morning with college reveals. After the confetti was swept and the stage was emptied, the afternoon session filled the venue with excitement in anticipation for more college reveals from IDEA Rio Grande City, IDEA Elsa, IDEA Weslaco Pike, and IDEA Owassa.
At the second day of College Signing Day events in the Rio Grande Valley, seventeen seniors were honored with scholarships towards their next four years in college. Sixteen students were awarded IDEA’s Give Me Five Scholarship in the amount of $8,000, funded by generous donations from the IDEA Team and Family. Give Me Five Scholarship Recipients from today’s presentations are Jennifer Villanueva and Leah Valdez from IDEA Edinburg, Jonathan Moreno-Jimenez and Valeria Robles from IDEA Brownsville, Lesly Otero and Nalani Fernandez from IDEA Quest, Jennifer Moreno and Melani Garcia from IDEA Weslaco, Edeiny Mar and Alexa Carrillo from IDEA Rio Grande City, Angel Gutierrez and Jocelyn Lopez from IDEA Elsa, Maria Jimenez-Silguero and Victoria Tamez from IDEA Weslaco Pike, and Efrain Sanchez and Yahaira Zapata from IDEA Owassa.
In a tribute to the legacy of IDEA Public Schools’ former Board Chair and Acting CEO, the family of Al Lopez honors one senior in each region with a scholarship award in his memory. This year’s recipient in the Rio Grande Valley was Valeree Zuniga from IDEA Rio Grande City.
Students from today’s College Signing Day presentations have been accepted to the nation’s top colleges including Yale University, University of Notre Dame, University of Texas at Austin, Texas Christian University, Texas A&M University, Boston University, and more.
