IDEA Public Schools Back to School Plan 2020

In addition, we’re putting in a number of new safety measures on campuses to make sure those who choose to join us in person will feel safe and secure. Here are some of the new policies and procedures for the next school year:

  • Students will arrive during an assigned, staggered drop-off time to avoid crowding.
  • We will also continue to offer transportation, but we are strongly recommending parents pick up and drop off as this is the safest way to get to and from school.
  • Students will wear a mask during the morning screening and transition procedure. If students do not have one from home, IDEA will provide two cloth masks per student.
  • Scholars will have their temperature checked by IDEA staff wearing a mask and be asked to clean their hands before entering the building at a hand hygiene station.
  • Classrooms will be limited to small groups as designated by CDC Guidelines. Students will have an assigned seat with a plexiglass guard for safety and have multiple hand hygiene breaks built into their day.
  • No rotating schedules during classroom lessons and mealtime.
  • Educators will wear masks during face-to-face conversations, but not during whole group instruction.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Hi, Future IDEA Parents!

HERE’S A QUICK GUIDE TO APPLYING.

How much does IDEA cost?

Like a traditional public school, any child can attend IDEA without paying tuition. So put another way, attending IDEA is free for your child and family!

Does my child have to take entrance exams?

Prospective students are not required to take an entrance exam to be considered for admission – meaning anyone can apply and all students are eligible!

Is my child old enough to attend IDEA?

In Texas, your child must be at least 4 (for Pre-K) or 5 years of age (for Kinder) on or by September 1, 2020. In Louisiana, students must be 5 years of age (for Kinder) on or by September 30, 2020.

What’s the cut-off date to submit my child’s application?

To be part of our student lottery on February 15, 2020, you must submit your child’s application by midnight CST the evening before. We strongly encourage parents to apply before this time to have the best chance to attend IDEA! Find more lottery details here. NOLA families go through a different process and can learn more and apply here.

What happens once my child gets accepted?

You’ll receive a notification and can login online to easily accept your child’s seat. Then we’ll invite you to join our IDEA family onboarding process, where you’ll get to know your child’s principal and teachers, meet fellow families, tour the school facilities, ask questions, and become part of our community through a variety of in-person events.

What happens if my child doesn’t get accepted during the lottery?

If students are not granted a seat at lottery, they will be placed on a waitlist for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year until a seat potentially opens up for them. They can also have the option attend a different IDEA school then transfer to your preferred IDEA campus if a seat opens up there.

Still have more questions?

Don’t worry. We completely understand! Deciding where your child goes to school is one of the most important choices for a parent. You can get more details on our admission process, lottery, and special programs on our FAQs web page. You can also find a variety of other ways to contact us directly via phone or email on our contact us web page.
