IDEA Public Schools celebrated its second day of 2026 College Signing Day events in the Rio Grande Valley at the McAllen Convention Center on May 21. To start the day, 249 seniors from IDEA Frontier, IDEA Rio Grande City, IDEA Robindale, and IDEA Sports Park took the stage with their college reveals. Later in the afternoon, 422 seniors from IDEA Pharr, IDEA Owassa, IDEA San Juan, IDEA North Mission, and IDEA Weslaco Pike closed out the day with more reveals.
In both events, 19 scholarships were awarded in total. 18 of those scholarships were IDEA’s Give Me 5 scholarships, which are generously funded by IDEA’s Team and Family. For the morning event, the recipients were: Gaddiel Ovalle and Tracey Sanchez from IDEA Frontier, Heaven Kelly and Clarissa Lara from IDEA Rio Grande City, Celeste Martinez and Mia Jimenez from IDEA Robindale, and Aliyah Quintero and Jose Vega from IDEA Sports Park. For the afternoon event, the recipients were: Osmar Bustamente Chapa and Diego Taguado from IDEA Pharr, Zoe Montenegro and Yesenia Niaves from IDEA Owassa, Eduardo Moctezuma and Sean Qu from IDEA San Juan, Cali Jones and Avril Lopez from IDEA North Mission, and Emily Garcia and Laila Salinas from IDEA Weslaco Pike.
IDEA Sports Park senior Alberto Lamas received the first annual Rebecca Jefferies Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was created to honor IDEA Sports Park late founding principal Rebecca Jefferies, whose leadership and dedication for academic success built a strong campus foundation for many years to come.
Students from today’s college signing day events will be venturing off to selective and highly selective colleges across the country including Yale, Wake Forest University, Washington & Lee University, Southern Methodist University, and more.
