College Signing Day is the event that families, staff, and graduating seniors look forward to most each year at IDEA Public Schools. It is a season of joy and celebration as the hard work of our Team & Family proves our mission of College For All. In the region’s largest College Signing Day celebration to date, San Antonio celebrated the accomplishments of our college-bound seniors.
We welcomed 425 seniors from IDEA Carver, IDEA Eastside, IDEA South Flores, IDEA Monterrey Park, IDEA Mays, IDEA Walzem, and IDEA Judson to the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio to reveal their college decision for the first time to nearly 2,500 friends, family, and IDEA scholars and over 300 viewers online.
Combined, the IDEA San Antonio Class of 2023 has 2,000 college acceptances! Over 75% of seniors will be first-generation college students, and 64% of our graduating class have been accepted to Ivy League, Tier 1, or Tier 2 schools. The IDEA San Antonio Class of 2023 also celebrates 7 QuestBridge scholarship matches, meaning these seniors have earned extra support and a completely free 4-year college experience because of their hard work in high school.
The IDEA San Antonio Class of 2023 has achieved a total of $70 million in scholarships. Part of those scholarships included the presentation of the San Antonio Facilities Scholarship, funded by IDEA San Antonio’s participation in the CPS Energy Demand Response program. The recipients of the San Antonio Facilities Scholarship are Dylan Bonnett, Samiyra Sutton, Valeria Alvarez, Jonah Treviño, Maria Martinez, Yolanda Fuenes, and Rhonda Cox.
Our Give Me 5 Scholarships, in the amount of $8,000 are awarded to outstanding seniors and funded by generous contributions from our IDEA Team & Family. IDEA San Antonio’s Give Me 5 Scholars are Roberto Villarreal Hernandez and Jaylen Kintner from IDEA Carver, Samiyra Sutton, and Alfonso Vazquez from IDEA Eastside, Alfredo Rocha and Jamie Deheer from IDEA Judson, Larry Losoya and Emmanuel De Anda from IDEA Mays, Joselyn Barboza Rios and Jessica Valadez from IDEA Monterrey Park, Viviana Perez and Jesselle Palacios from IDEA South Flores, and Darren Moore and Ngoc Nguyen from IDEA Walzem.
IDEA Carver senior Sofia Mosquera Zarraga also became the second San Antonio recipient of the $10,000 Al & Judy Scholarship Endowment award in memory of IDEA’s late acting CEO.
Thanks to the generosity of our College for All Sponsor, PMSI, we are excited to share an additional $10,000 scholarship for one San Antonio Class of 2023 scholar. The recipient of this award is IDEA Walzem College Prep scholar Benjamin Pacheco.
Students from this year’s graduating class have been accepted to Penn State, Stanford, Emory University, University of Houston, St. Mary’s University, Clark University, Boston University, Seattle University, and many more.
We would like to congratulate each scholar of the graduating class of 2023 and their families on this momentous occasion and invite our entire Team & Family and the community to help celebrate the collective success of the IDEA Class of 2023!
The celebration continues next month, when we celebrate IDEA Rio Grande Valley’s graduating class on May 18 and 19. We can’t wait to continue celebrating our graduating classes and their achievements throughout IDEA during this joyful season!
