When a family enrolls their child at IDEA Public Schools, they trust us with more than their child’s education. They also trust us with important information, including contact details, health records, and academic history. 

Protecting that information is an important responsibility. 

IDEA Public Schools has earned ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, a globally recognized standard for information security. The certification was issued by Armanino Certified, LLC, following an independent audit. IDEA is among the first charter school systems in the United States to earn this certification. 

What does this certification mean? 

In simple terms, the certification confirms that IDEA has clear and reliable practices for protecting important information. 

An independent team reviewed IDEA’s information security program and confirmed that it meets an international standard. The certification covers the information systems that support teaching, learning, school operations, and administration across IDEA’s Texas campuses. 

This includes student information, staff records, instructional data, financial information, and other records used in IDEA’s daily work. 

What does this mean for our community? 

For families, it provides added confidence. IDEA is not simply saying that information security matters. An independent review confirmed that IDEA meets a trusted global standard. 

For students, strong and reliable systems help protect learning time. IDEA has plans in place to help important services recover and continue when challenges occur. 

For staff, the certification creates clear and consistent expectations. Information security practices are documented and designed to continue even when staff members or leaders change. 

A team effort 

Earning this certification required teamwork across IDEA. Human Resources, Finance, Legal, Procurement, Operations, and the Information Systems team all contributed to the effort. 

A five-person Information Security team led the work without outside consultants. During the certification process, the team improved its compliance rating from 48% to 100% and developed 28 policies to guide IDEA’s information security work. 

This achievement is an important milestone, but the work does not end with certification. IDEA remains committed to protecting the information entrusted to us today and preparing the needs of students, families, and staff in the years ahead.
