IDEA Carver Academy Receives Prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award

We are thrilled to share some exciting news! IDEA Carver Academy has earned the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award by the U.S. Department of Education. The school, led by Principal Laura Flack, received the honor for closing the gap in student learning on results from the 2021-2022 academic year.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools program has been recognizing schools since 1982, and it recognizes elementary, middle and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student groups.

“We are very proud of the hard work and dedication from our staff and students to help achieve this incredible honor,” said Laura Flack, Principal of IDEA Carver Academy. “Our teachers and staff are dedicated in providing our students with the best education to prepare them for their future academic journey.”

Teachers prioritize having conferences one-on-one with students and their families, often making home visits to discuss student performance data. Parents, teachers, and administrators work as a team to accomplish campus goals.

IDEA Carver Academy sets high expectations for instructional practices, critical student intervention, and providing regular, proactive feedback. These practices have resulted in a 10% increase in reading and math achievement year over year.

“To have one of our IDEA San Antonio campuses recognized as a Blue Ribbon Award-winning school exemplifies great opportunities not just for our scholars, but for our entire city,” said Angie Arismendi, Executive Director of IDEA San Antonio. “Every day, our educators work to help make sure students in our community know college is attainable for all and this recognition is a testament to our mission.”

We are so proud of the IDEA Carver Academy Team & Family and celebrate them on this momentous occasion. To learn more about applying to this campus or to find a school near you, please visit us at: ideapublicschools.org/apply/.
