Four IDEA College Preparatory Schools Rank in the Top 10 Most Challenging in the Nation

Four IDEA college preparatory schools ranked top ten most challenging in the nation, 13 in the top one percent

Thirteen IDEA college preparatory schools were ranked among the top one percent of the most challenging high schools in the nation by the Jay Mathews Challenge Index High School Rankings. Among the list of 300 top high schools, IDEA College Preparatory McAllen is ranked the number one high school in the country.    

Thirteen IDEA high schools received rankings on the 2022 national list. These include:  

  • Within the top 10 in the nation: 
    • #1 – IDEA College Preparatory McAllen 
    • #5 – IDEA College Preparatory Pharr  
    • #6 – IDEA College Preparatory San Juan 
    • #7 – IDEA Frontier College Preparatory  

 

  • Within the top 20 in the nation: 
    • #11 – IDEA Alamo College Preparatory 
    • #15 – IDEA College Preparatory Weslaco 
    • #16 – IDEA Toros College Preparatory 
    • #17 – IDEA College Preparatory Edinburg 

 

  • Other IDEA high schools that made the list and top 1% nationally include: 
    • #22 – IDEA Carver College Preparatory 
    • #28 – IDEA Quest College Preparatory 
    • #31 – IDEA College Preparatory Donna 
    • #37 – IDEA College Preparatory Brownsville 
    • #44 – IDEA Weslaco Pike College Preparatory 

 

The Challenge Index is the oldest high school ranking system in the country, beginning in 1998 in both Newsweek and The Washington Post. It ranks public and private high schools in the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests given at a school each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year. Schools ranked no. 220 or above are in the top one percent of America’s 22,000 high schools.
