Dr. Álvarez serves as the Interim Executive Director for the Greater Houston Area. In his role, Dr. Álvarez enjoys serving on The Schools Team, coaching and developing Regional VPs of Schools, and leading and supporting high-impact, org-wide projects.
Today, Dr. Álvarez is proud to see his students fulfill the promise and mission of graduating from college. He enjoys traveling to his students’ college graduations across the state and country and celebrating their family achievements. He served as the founding principal of IDEA College Preparatory McAllen, ranked as the number one high school in the country in the Jay Mathews Challenge Index High School Rankings. In 2019, Dr. Álvarez was recognized as a recipient of the Ryan Award, a prestigious recognition awarded to two high-performing principals in the nation for their transformational leadership and results. Under his leadership, the school earned an A rating every school year, met 100% state distinctions every year, was ranked number one in Texas for student achievement and progress, and sent 100% of students to colleges and universities across the country. He attributes the many campus achievements to the Dream Team of teachers and leaders on campus.
Dr. Álvarez graduated from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi, where he earned a Bachelor of Science, a Master’s in Educational Administration, and a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership. Dr. Álvarez believes every student’s graduation tassel is a proof point of success by design. Dr. Álvarez enjoys being outdoors riding his four-wheeler or barbequing, traveling, and spending family time where he grew up – Progreso, Texas.
