National Principal’s Month Spotlight: IDEA Texas Principals and Their Transformative Education

At IDEA Public Schools, our mission is to prepare our scholars for college and for life through a high-quality education. On campus, the ones spearheading that growth and change in our scholars are our dedicated principals.

October is National Principals Month, and we’d like to recognize some of our leaders from various regions in Texas. Read more about what motivates them in their role and why they strive to work towards our mission.

Kenieka Francis – Sr. Principal, IDEA Edgecliff College Preparatory (Tarrant County)

What inspires you in your role as a principal at IDEA Edgecliff?

Being the founding principal of IDEA Edgecliff College Preparatory is a privilege and a responsibility that goes far beyond overseeing academics, it’s personal. My goal is to create a school where every student receives rigorous instruction. What drives me is knowing that we’re not just changing students’ academic outcomes—we’re changing their futures.

During college, what were some of the most important lessons you learned that have had an impact on your current leadership style today?

One of the most important lessons I learned in college is the power of intentional leadership—leadership that values both the people you serve and those who serve alongside you.

Karen Jasso – Principal, IDEA Edgecliff College Preparatory (Austin)

What inspired you to become a principal?

My mother would always tell me, “un día lo lograrás meaning “one day you will achieve”. This has been a guiding light in my life. My passion for teaching ignited when I was in high school, when I began tutoring my peers to support my family. This experience solidified my goal in wanting to help students realize their potential, even when they doubted themselves.

How does it feel to be part of IDEA Kyle’s first graduating class?

As I approach my first graduating class, I am filled with excitement and pride. This milestone represents not just academic achievement, but the culmination of dreams realized.

IDEA’s emphasis on high expectations has also challenged me to refine my leadership skills. Personally, I’ve grown in my ability to collaborate effectively. My time here has been a journey of continuous learning. I’m grateful to be part of an organization that priorities professional and personal growth.

Aldo Garza – Principal, IDEA Burke College Preparatory (San Antonio)

How do you ensure your students will be ready for college and for life?

At IDEA Burke College Preparatory, we ensure that we prepare them academically and for the rigor of college level instruction. We teach students research, time management, and study skills. We are also big believers in having resilience, so we help students develop perseverance and the ability to cope with challenges.

What were some of the things that drew you to work with IDEA Public Schools?

The first thing that drew me was IDEA’s mission of College for All. The impact and influence I could have on my students’ education is what motivated me to start my journey with IDEA Public Schools. From then on, I became committed to working with IDEA Public Schools to ensure I can support as many scholars as possible so they attend the college of their dreams!
