Originally from Baton Rouge, LA Shayla McCray is a passionate educator with a proven track record of success. Shayla has served a launching Assistant Principal of Instruction and Principal in Residence with IDEA Public Schools in Tarrant County.
Prior to joining IDEA, Shayla has over 10 years of experience in education. She has served as a Dean of Students, Grade Level Team Lead teacher, 2nd, 3rd and 5th grade teacher. Shayla is passionate about serving students and providing an equitable and safe environment conducive to learning. Shayla is very excited to serve as the principal of IDEA Rise Academy and looks forward to serving scholars and families for the years to come.

He began his educational career as a 7th and 8th grade science teacher and then transitioned to high school where he taught chemistry, physics, and reading intervention. During his summers, he worked for Teach For America where he trained new teachers and provided them with the knowledge and skills needed to become effective leaders in the classroom. For the past two years, he has worked for IDEA Public Schools as a Principal in Residence where he has helped run schools in the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio. He is excited to launch IDEA Rise College Prep as the founding principal in the Fall of 2019!
