Guadalupe Diaz’s passion and mission in life is to ensure that ALL students are prepared for college, attend and graduate. She is the youngest of five children and the only college graduate.
She began her career as an elementary bilingual teacher. She then transitioned to become a Campus Instructional Coordinator for a PK-8th grade academy, an Assistant Principal for K-5th elementary school and in 2009 she was assigned to the Principal role. Guadalupe ran a model parent room program with United Way focused on parental engagement. Her campus has received TEA distinctions in mathematics and top 25% student progress. Guadalupe has presented at the Council of Urban Board of Educators, a national conference, on how to close to the achievement gap for ELL.
Guadalupe’s personal story of being the only college graduate in her family drives her passion to ensure children like her go to college. Her hope is that her campus impacts children in east side of San Antonio in a way that has never been seen before. She desire is to move her campus to a high level of academic achievement to prove that all children can learn and be successful given the opportunity. The biggest challenge facing her this year is engaging parents of at risk children to ensure they understand that education is a way to break the cycle of poverty and a way to build long, lasting futures for their children.
For the past 20 years, Mr. Yu has dedicated his life’s work to education. He launched his career in Houston as a biology and chemistry teacher at Milby High School.
After serving as a successful teacher for four years he transitioned to a role as principal intern with the High School for Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA). After serving in this capacity for a few years, Mr. Yu was promoted to the role of assistant principal.
He served as an assistant principal at two Houston-based high schools for a total of four years before he joined International High School as principal. Similar to IDEA Carver College Prep, International High School is a 6-12 school that emphasized college readiness. Now, Mr. Yu serves as IDEA Carver’s Principle and puts in countless hours to make sure of success for all of his students. Mr. Yu is excited to continue his education career at IDEA Public Schools where the mission of College For All Children matches his passion.
