IDEA Public Schools Class of 2023 Celebrates College Signing Day in Austin

Over 200 IDEA seniors in Austin have been accepted to a four-year college

AUSTIN, TEXAS (April 17, 2023) – On April 19, IDEA Public Schools will celebrate its graduating classes in Austin as they announce their college picks at College Signing Day 2023. During the event, each IDEA Austin senior will announce, for the first time, to their family, friends, and the community, the college they plan to attend this fall. This year, IDEA Bluff Springs College Preparatory will welcome its first senior class as they take part in the College Signing Day (CSD) events.

“With all regions of our graduating classes combined, we’ve had over 9,000 acceptance letters, with our greater Austin scholars making up over 1,100 of those acceptances,” said Jeff Cottrill, Ed.D., IDEA Public Schools Superintendent. “Over 300 students in the Austin region also received acceptances into selective and highly selective different colleges and universities across the U.S. and beyond. Each acceptance is a validation of the student’s talent, hard work, and determination, and we are so proud.”

College Signing Day is the culmination of years of hard work and marks a momentous occasion in each IDEA scholar’s academic journey. Students from this year’s graduating classes across the district will accept spots at Boston University, New York University, Cornell University, Trinity College, University of Texas at Austin, University of Chicago, St. Edwards University, and more. The class of 2023 in Greater Austin has received $19 million in scholarships and grants to date.

In addition, Regions Bank will provide $35k worth of scholarship funds for selected seniors. One student will be selected to receive $10k of those funds as part of a specialty award presented by Regions Bank at CSD.

“Selecting a university is one of life’s most important decisions,” said Stephanie Perryman, Commercial Banking leader and market executive for Regions Bank in Austin. “As a longtime community partner of IDEA Public Schools and supporter of its commitment to empower every student to realize their own potential, our Regions team is incredibly proud to support these scholarships to deserving seniors as they pursue their higher education journey.”

About IDEA Public Schools

IDEA Public Schools believes that each child can go to college. Since 2000, IDEA Public Schools has grown from a small school with 150 students to a network of tuition-free, K-12 public charter schools in the United States. Currently, the network serves over 80,000 college-bound students in 143 schools across Texas and its affiliates. IDEA has been recognized in national rankings for The Washington Post, The U.S. Department of Education’s list of Blue Ribbon Schools, and U.S. News & World Report’s Top High Schools lists. For the last 16 years, IDEA has sent nearly 100% of its graduates to college and remains on track to uphold that legacy.
