At IDEA Public Schools, we believe great teaching is transformative. This year, we’re proud to celebrate four exceptional educators – three newly certified and one previously certified – who exemplify the highest standards of the profession. These teachers have earned National Board Certification, one of the most respected and rigorous credentials in education.
National Board Certification represents a deep commitment to reflective teaching practice, student-centered instruction, and continuous professional development. Teachers who achieve this distinction demonstrate that their work meets the profession’s highest standards for accomplished teaching, and research shows that National Board Certified Teachers have a positive impact on student learning outcomes.
For the four IDEA educators who have accomplished National Board Certification this year, the journey was both challenging and transformational. While the journey is deeply personal, all four of IDEA’s newly certified educators echo that the power of great teaching is rooted in an unwavering commitment to students and the love of teaching.
Sonia Ngo, Special Education teacher from IDEA Brownsville, views her certification as a testament to lifelong learning and instructional excellence.
Reflecting on the journey, Sonia shared, “Every step has been worth it. I feel humbled and honored to stand among this distinguished rank of teaching professionals.”
For Val Pruneda, Special Education Teacher at IDEA Round Rock Tech, the process pushed her to closely examine her classroom instruction and refine how she supports her classroom.
“It validated the profession I’ve dedicated my career to and reinforced the importance of continuous growth,” Val shared.
Jacquelin Stewart, Special Education Teacher at IDEA Alamo, sees National Board Certification as an affirmation that great teaching is built on courage and unwavering advocacy for students.
“It reinforces my dedication to continually push the boundaries of what’s possible for the children we serve,” Jacquelin said.
For Zanyace Aguinaga, teacher at IDEA Donna, her path to National Board Certification reaffirmed her conviction that both teachers and students should always strive to grow. Through thoughtful planning, responsive instruction, and reflective practice, she remains committed to empowering her students.
“This process affirmed who I am as an educator and why I chose this profession,” Zanyace said.
The passion for helping students realize their full academic and personal potential is a common thread shared in the work and leadership of our National Board Certified educators. Together, they embody the highest standards of the profession and the commitment to IDEA’s mission of college for all.
