Sylvia Flores graduated from Southwestern Adventist University with a B.S. in Biology and from The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley with a Master’s degree in educational leadership and her state of Texas principal certification. She is currently in school to obtain her Ph.D. in School Improvement from Texas State University and is expected to graduate by 2024. Flores started her journey with IDEA in 2015 as a co-teacher at IDEA Weslaco Pike in Weslaco, TX. During her time with IDEA, she has serviced students as an Academy Teacher, College Prep teacher, Assistant Principal of Instruction, Principal in Residence, and now as the proud Principal of IDEA Round Rock Tech Academy.
Flores enjoys reading self-help books, going to Orange Theory Fitness, and spending time with her husband, Armando, and their two dogs, Stormy and Wolfie. Sylvia welcomes the challenge of serving a large community and participating in such a dynamic and challenging field with the Thunderbird team and family.
Continue ReadingStacia Wegner Comer graduated from The University of Texas with a B.S. in communication studies and from Teacher’s College of Columbia University with a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration. After college, she joined the Teach For America Rio Grande Valley Corps and began teaching ninth-grade English and journalism in La Joya, TX.
Over her past 13 years in education, Stacia has worked at several IDEA campuses, including: IDEA San Juan, IDEA Rundberg, and IDEA Montopolis. During her time at IDEA, Stacia has worked as founding middle school English teacher, founding high school English teacher, grade team leader, academic counselor, and is currently a principal-in-residence. Stacia is excited to launch IDEA Round Rock Tech in her hometown of Austin, TX, and build lasting relationships with staff, students, families, and community partners. In her free time, Stacia enjoys spending time with her husband, Andy, and hiking with her husband and dog, Katniss (named after one of her favorite YA novels).
Continue ReadingAaron’s career with IDEA Public Schools began in the role of Facilities Manager at the IDEA Rio Grande City campus in 2017 where he was named New Facilities Manager of the Year for the 2017-2018 school year. In April of 2019 Aaron assumed the role of Interim Assistant Principal of Operations at IDEA Rundberg to guide the campus through the final months of the 2019/2020 school year. In July of 2019, Aaron transferred to IDEA Parmer Park where he again assumed the role of Interim Assistant Principal of Operations to help finalize their preparations for the launch of their new campus. After Parmer Park was successfully launched and their new permanent Assistant Principal of Operations had arrived, Aaron was able to transition into the role of founding Assistant Principal of Operations for IDEA Round Rock Tech in August of 2019.
Since 2019, Aaron has worked diligently to develop the IDEA Round Rock Tech campus, ensuring that their operations are recognized as among the very best in the IDEA Public Schools network. Aaron brings with him 25 years of professional experience from a variety of backgrounds, including an extensive career in software and website development, analytical skills in the transportation and banking industries, as well as time spent building and developing a non-profit from the grounds up. These skills have been integral to the success of IDEA Round Rock Tech. Aaron is excited about the impact that has already been realized by IDEA Round Rock Tech in the community, and the tremendous opportunities that it will create in the lives of the thousands of students which will be on the road to-and-through college as part of their IDEA journey.
