Biography

Dr. Colleen E. Stearns has worked as part of the IDEA Team & Family since 2015 serving as a curriculum manager, director of curriculum & instruction, and Vice President of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. Prior to joining the IDEA team, Colleen was a PK-12 teacher, Reading Specialist, dyslexia interventionist, campus administrator, district program coordinator, and curriculum designer.

 

Colleen is currently the Chief Academic Officer and oversees all aspects of curriculum development, instructional strategies, assessment practices, special programs, and professional development initiatives.

 

Colleen has taught graduate level courses in Advanced Literacy, Elementary Methods, and Secondary English Language Arts curriculum and instruction and served as a University Supervisor at Concordia University Texas, coaching and evaluating Advanced Literacy interns who were completing their M.Ed. in Advanced Literacy and pursuing the Texas Reading Specialist Certification.   Additionally, Colleen is a curriculum auditor with Curriculum Management Solutions, Inc., and works with teams who audit school systems across the United States; Colleen has been on audit teams in Texas, Connecticut, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Maryland.

 

Colleen earned her B.A. at Southwestern University, and her M.Ed. in Educational Administration and M.Ed. in Advanced Literacy at Concordia University Texas.  She completed her Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction at Concordia University Texas with a focus on effective professional development for Advanced Placement mathematics and science teachers.

 

Colleen lives in Belton, TX with her husband and four children.
