Christina’s career with IDEA Public Schools began in June 2003, where she was one of five founding high school teachers at IDEA College Prep Donna. Between 2003 and 2007, Christina taught HS History/Humanities courses, and led her team as the humanities content leader for two years.
Christina continued her role as a teacher and added on more responsibilities as an Assistant Principal/Dean of Students for the middle and high school. In this role, Christina was responsible for creating many of the student structures and systems at IDEA Public Schools. After two years as an Assistant Principal, Christina became the first Alumni Affairs Coordinator for the organization to help ensure that 100% of IDEA’s alumni finish college within four years.
In 2007, Christina was asked to lead the Human Resources Department for the organization and served as the Vice President of Human Resources for two years. Her aspirations of becoming a school principal came to fruition when Christina returned to ICP Donna in 2009 as the middle school principal. While Principal at ICP Donna, it has been named one of the Best High Schools in the nation by US News & World Report. After 7 years as the principal at ICP Donna, Christina transitioned in June 2016 to an elementary school, IDEA Academy Mission. In November 2018, IDEA Academy Mission became the first US Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School. In July 2019, Christina was named Executive Principal for IDEA Mission. Christina is the Executive Principal because she oversees both the Academy and College Prep schools.
Christina earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Grinnell College, and later earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership at Sam Houston State University.
Christina lives in Palmhurst with her husband (Gerry), two daughters (Romina and Niavana), son (Rio), and dog (Books).
Christian's journey began in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, where she completed her high school education. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to the University of Texas Pan-American, where she immersed herself in the study of Criminal Justice, complemented by a minor in Spanish. Graduating in 2005 marked the commencement of her professional endeavors.
In 2012, Christian embarked on a new path, initially as a co-teacher for CP RISE. Motivated by the necessity of gaining experience with children, she ventured into the realm of education. To her surprise, she discovered a profound passion for teaching, prompting a shift in her career aspirations. Under the mentorship of exemplary figures, she ventured into a teaching program, ultimately obtaining her teacher certification.
For eight years, Christian dedicated herself to nurturing young minds, primarily as a Kindergarten teacher. However, in 2021, an enticing opportunity emerged: the role of Student Success Advisor within the administrative team. Thriving in this capacity, Christian found immense fulfillment in orchestrating events and fostering a vibrant campus atmosphere.
The turning point arrived in 2023 when Christian decided to pursue the APO position at IDEA Mission. Describing it as her calling, she embraced the challenge with gratitude. In her role, she meticulously oversees the logistical operations of the campus, ensuring its smooth functioning. IDEA Mission has become her sanctuary, a place she wholeheartedly cherishes, thanks to the unwavering support of her OPS and Lead team.
