Megan Burnham

Principal, IDEA Mays Academy

After graduating from Gettysburg College, Megan Burnham Monnahan began her career as a special education teacher in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

After two years, she was promoted to Special Education Coordinator for her school, overseeing a program with over 200 students receiving Special Education Services. During her time in Prince George’s County, Megan was recognized with the Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee Extraordinary Service Award and the Maryland Council for Exceptional Children Frances R. Fuchs Award. Megan also completed her M.A. in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska during this time.

Megan moved to San Antonio in 2015, when her husband was stationed at Joint Base San Antonio. She was a founding teacher at IDEA Mays College Prep in August 2016. Over the next four years Megan served as a GTL, Instructional Coach, and API. She led the ELA team to support Mays College Prep in earning 3 straight years of TEA “A” ratings and helped Mays Academy to achieve a 17-point increase in 3 months to earn a TEA 89 – “B” rating. During the 2019-2020 school year Megan stepped into the role of Interim Principal at Mays Academy. She continued coaching the ELA team from 3rd – 9th grade, and both Mays Academy and College Prep were projected to receive “A” ratings from TEA.

Megan is vehemently dedicated to IDEA’s mission of college for all. As a first-generation college graduate, she has seen the immense impact that completion of a 4-year degree has on someone’s life. She looks forward to continuing that promise to the families of IDEA Mays!
