Mrs. Perez began her career in education with a deep commitment to serving students and families in the Rio Grande Valley.
She joined IDEA Public Schools in 2020 and has served in a variety of instructional and leadership roles, including classroom teacher, curriculum writer, assistant principal of instruction, and successor principal fellow.
Throughout her leadership journey, Mrs. Perez has led core academic programs across grade levels, managed campus-wide systems, and supported the development of teacher leaders and administrators. Her work has consistently focused on strengthening instructional quality, building data-driven systems, and cultivating strong, value-driven school cultures. IN 2025, she was appointed principal of IDEA Edinburg Academy, where she leads with a clear focus on academic excellence, intentional systems, and collective ownership for student success.
Mrs. Perez's leadership is grounded in developing people- investing in teachers, empowering leaders, and building meaningful partnerships with students, families, and staff. She believes that when adults are supported with clarity and purpose, students thrive. She holds a bachelor in Bilingual Education and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). She remains deeply committed to serving her community through public education.
Sylvia began her teaching career in 2006 as a bilingual educator with Edinburg CISD before joining IDEA Public Schools in 2011.
In 2012, she became the founding Assistant Principal at IDEA McAllen Academy, where her leadership helped the campus earn the "Best Young Campus of the Year" award. Four years later, she was appointed principal at IDEA Donna Academy, guiding the school to an A rating and recognition as the "Most Improved Campus" for academic achievement. In 2024, she took on a new role as Director of Leader Development with the Mid-Valley team where she coached and developed aspiring principals.
Sylvia's career is defined by a strong commitment to developing people- whether it's mentoring teachers, leading teams, or building relationships with students, parents, and the community. In every role she takes on, Sylvia remains dedicated to fostering environments where people can thrive.
Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, Sylvia holds a BBA in Information Systems from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a M.ED. in Educational Administration from the University of Texas-Pan American.
Erik Humphrey received his bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering and his master’s degree in Engineering Management from the University of Texas – Pan American. He has held multiple operations positions in the private sector while working at different world class companies prior to joining IDEA Edinburg in 2013.
Erik’s knowledge and experience in operations, and his continuous improvement mindset has led his campus to be recognized as one of the top schools in the IDEA Public Schools network. He proudly leads the operations team at IDEA Edinburg, and always exemplifies the core values we live by. He is a strong believer that a good education is the best way to achieve success in life, and he firmly believes IDEA Public Schools offers amazing and unique opportunities for students to thrive in college and beyond.
