Celebrating Those Making Impact in the Tech Field

At IDEA Public Schools, we provide students with opportunities to develop technical skills that can lead to rewarding careers in technology. Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program offers courses that allow our scholars to explore different fields in the job market.

Programs of study like Graphic Design and Programming and Software Development equip students with hands-on experience and exposure to industry tools. These programs open doors for students—especially young women—who aspire to become the next generation of tech leaders.

Meet three IDEA Team and Family members who are making an impact in technology space, paving the way for students to do the same.

Telma Corona Molina, Computer Technician at IDEA Eastside

“I’ve always been curious about how technology works. In school, I received an award from my typing teacher and when I asked her why I was chosen, she said it was because I often showed her shortcuts and features, she didn’t even know existed. I later pursued an education in technology, getting both my associates and bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Technology.

When technology issues arise, people often assume that the “tech guy” is coming to help. By being the computer technician at IDEA Eastside, I am an example that there can also be the “tech girl” that is going to assist you. I enjoy my job and have never lost that curiosity to keep learning.”

Audrey Cisneros, Director of Instructional Technology

“I originally did not plan to pursue a career in technology as I got a degree in Studio Art. However, my previous experiences working as a graphic and web designer led me here. One job I had was with a commercial sign company, which I really enjoyed the fabrication process and working with the instillation crew.

As a former IB Visual Arts teacher, I used these skills to guide my students to create using a variety of materials. Ultimately, I transitioned careers because I wanted to help solve problems that are affecting students and teachers on a larger scale.

What makes me stand out in this field is my background in education, design, and change management. My combination of technical and business skills allows me to communicate effectively with both technical specialists and technology users.”

Brianna Rodriguez, Assistant Director of Technology Operations

“It wasn’t until I was in middle school that it solidified for me that I am meant to be in the tech field. My teacher nominated me to join GEAR UP, which partnered with the University of Texas – Pan American in Edinburg for a summer program in robotics. After the program, I knew technology was going to be my career path. The ability to problem solve, innovate, and create solutions really fascinated me.

I started my career in technology as a Technician, which allowed me to understand challenges from both a field and organizational perspective. This experience has really shaped me into a well-rounded leader in this space. I have a keen eye to detail and a strong ability to listen, which enables me to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.

I had customers and colleagues who ignored, questioned, and would undervalue me because I did not fit the typical IT mold. It took a lot of resilience and learning how to advocate for myself. I realized that the worst possible outcome of speaking up was rejection, but the best outcome was having my ideas recognized and implemented. Throughout my career, I have developed confidence in my expertise.”
