During the week of November 3-7, the National Association of School Psychologists and schools across the country celebrate school psychologists and their impact on their school communities. National School Psychologist Week (NSPW) is an annual opportunity to recognize the work of our school psychologists and the work they do to help students thrive in the classroom, at home, and in life.
As part of our Special Programs teams, our school psychologists work to ensure our students feel supported, capable, and ready to learn. From promoting academic success to building strong school communities, their impact reaches every part of our mission to help students succeed in college and in life.
This year’s theme, “Finding Your Path”, reminds us how our school psychologists help students, families, and staff navigate challenges and discover their unique paths to growth and achievement. Let’s take this week to thank our school psychologists for the essential role they play in helping every IDEA student find their path to success.
Meet Jacibe Lopez from the Permian Basin, Veronica Garza from the Rio Grande Valley, and Lilia Lerma-Gonzalez from San Antonio. All are school psychologists in their respective regions who play a big role in the growth and development of all IDEA scholars.
Jacibe Lopez, Lead School Psychologist, IDEA Permian Basin

“As a School Psychologist, my role focuses on supporting children, families, and staff by providing expert guidance through data-driven assessments and collaboration. My passion is to make a long-lasting positive impact on children’s education by ensuring they have the same access to opportunities as others. School psychology is a profession of love and dedication to and for children.”
Veronica Garza, Sr. School Psychologist – Middle Rio Grande Valley

“I conduct formal evaluations, provide counseling, and collaborate with teachers, families, and staff to ensure our scholars receive the support they need. Additionally, I support the scholars’ skills related to behavior, academics, learning, and overall development. Over my 10 years with IDEA Public Schools, it has been especially rewarding to watch students overcome obstacles and celebrate milestones along their individual journeys.”
Lilia Lerma-Gonzalez, School Psychologist – San Antonio

“When I reflect on the history of school psychology and special education, I feel proud to be in a growing profession that is dedicated to meeting the unique needs of our children. I also greatly value the partnership that takes place, connecting assessment with meaningful intervention. Amazing things happen for our students when all the pieces come together.”
As we celebrate National School Psychologist Week, we proudly recognize the meaningful impact of our School Psychologists across the organization. Through their care, expertise, and dedication, their work ensures that scholars can be their best inside and outside the classroom. Their partnerships with teachers, families, and staff members embodies our mission to ensure all scholars are set up for success for college and in life.
