IDEA Public Schools is proud to announce that four students from the Rio Grande Valley have been selected for the National Math Stars Program. This program is a national initiative that nurtures young mathematicians, offering support from as early as third grade through the end of high school.
Over the course of 10 years, these students receive more than $100,000 in support and resources tailored to their strengths and interests in mathematics. This journey is designed to foster their talents, paving the way for academic and professional success.
After a rigorous selection process, the following four IDEA students are among 61 students nationwide selected as National Math Stars Awardees this year from over 1,300 applications:

- Sebastian Valdez, IDEA San Benito Academy
- Alyson Gonzalez, IDEA San Juan Academy
- Jayson Dimas, IDEA San Juan Academy
In addition, 25 IDEA students were also selected as National Math Stars Finalists:

This marks the first year that students from IDEA Public Schools participate in this program, and we are proud to be the third most represented school district in the program.
The National Math Stars Program plays a vital role in igniting students’ passion for mathematics and providing them with the tools and support needed to overcome barriers and excel in math and science. The program offers math mentorship, family advising, community gatherings, and substantial funding to ensure these young mathematicians reach their full potential.
We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and their dedication to mathematics. Their success is a testament to our commitment to preparing every student for success in college and beyond.
