Katie Mackey

Founding Principal, IDEA Parmer Park

Katie Mackey is a graduate of The Ohio State University where she earned her B.S. in Math and Reading Education. She moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2015 as a Teach for America corps member where she taught in special education. Ms. Mackey also worked as an instructional coach to prepare new teachers for their first teaching experiences.

At Achievement First in Hartford, Connecticut, Ms. Mackey served as the Dean of Special Education and STEM Dean. There she lead the math team to double-digit increases in state test scores. In 2018, Ms. Mackey came to Austin to join IDEA Public Schools as a Principal in Residence at Montopolis Academy where she would continue to grow as a leader and develop the skills necessary to launch a successful campus. Katie is thrilled to be the Founding Principal of Parmer Park Academy in 2019 and cannot wait to welcome her first class of panthers!

Sharon stanton

Assistant Principal of Operations, IDEA Parmer Park

Sharon is a native Texan who grew up in a small town called Kirbyville that had one stop light while I was growing up. Working with children or animals was always a goal of hers, and since the majority of the women she admired most in my family were in education, she naturally gravitated to teaching. I started my journey in Lake Charles, LA, getting my bachelor’s in Elementary Education, and taught 3rd grade for three years in Cameron, LA, after graduating.

Her next adventure took her to Togiak, AK, to teach middle school. She learned so much about myself and the value of celebrating cultures in those three years. She returned to Texas to be closer to family, and began working at Harmony Science Academy. During that nine year period, she held various positions such as teacher, interventionist, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal. Continuing to seek out challenges and growth in my career, she started teaching at IDEA Parmer Park right before the pandemic.

She has grown so much as a person and educator within this past year and a half, and is grateful to be given the chance to become the Assistant Principal of Operations.
