She joined IDEA as a Assistant Principal of Instruction in 2012 after many years as a successful bilingual teacher-leader in the PSJA school district. In the summer of 2017, she joined the Principal in Residence program, ready to take the next step to positively impact the outcomes for even more students and families in the Rio Grande Valley, a community she was born and raised in.
In November 2017, she was named the Founding Principal for IDEA Owassa Academy. As the Founding Principal at IDEA Owassa, Cyndi consistently leads her academy-level teachers and students to impressive results year after year. She continues to thrive in leading the Mighty Broncs at Owassa Academy.
Born in McAllen and raised in Reynosa, Mr. Braulio Barranco crossed the border daily to attend school - an experience that shaped his deep commitment to student success. While earning his history degree with a minor in math and English from UTRGV, he balanced full-time work with college coursework.
His journey with IDEA began in 2011 as a substitute teacher and co-teacher at IDEA Edinburg. He later taught 7th grade math at IDEA Mission, where he served on the teacher advisory council, GTL for his grade level, and was chosen as teacher of the year for that campus. His classroom commitment was unwavering, and he consistently improved student outcomes in his classrooms.
Since 2019, he's served as Assistant Principal at IDEA Owassa, where his leadership helped the campus earn an A rating and recognition as Scaling Campus of the Year. The campus has been nationally ranked as one of the best middle schools.
