National Summer Learning Week: July 11-15, 2022

IDEA Public Schools is celebrating National Summer Learning Week from July 11 – July 15! We know learning never stops, and this celebration is dedicated to elevating the importance of keeping kids learning, safe, and healthy every summer, ensuring they return for the new school year ready to succeed.

To keep your child learning, be sure they spend at least 30 – 60 minutes a day practicing their literacy skills. In addition, it is recommended to set learning goals for reading, math, and even typing!

Here are three reasons your child should log on and continue learning this summer.

Reason 1: Come Back to School Sharp & Ready

If your child dedicates just one hour a day working on math skills and reading a book or two, they will return to school in August ahead of the game and ready to learn. Helpful Tip: Develop a routine! Start the morning with a good breakfast and make that next hour a dedicated “Learning Time.”

Continuing daily learning will also prepare students as they return to classrooms in August. Returning to school after spending time reading as a hobby will increase motivation, excitement, and engagement as we all safely learn together.

Reason 2: It’s the Perfect Downtime Activity

Go for a walk in the summer sun. Kick the soccer ball around. Play with your pet.  But when there’s a little downtime or the sun is too hot, have your child log in to Clever for some math fun or to refine their typing skills. You’ll be amazed at how many little pockets of time you can fill with educational fun!

Reason 3: It’s A Blast!

IDEA Weslaco Pike student Clarissa Rodriguez said it best, “You are rewarded every second that you are reading. Sometimes a book can be a companion when no one else is. When you’re bored, you can open a good book, snuggle up in the covers, and transfer yourself into another world.  You feel like you’re right there with the main characters.”

The same goes for mathematics. Who needs repetitive video games when you have interactive math, reading, and typing games to play?
