Back to School, Healthy and Ready: Tips for Navigating Flu Season

As we welcome students and families back for the spring semester, keeping our school community healthy remains our top priority. With flu season continuing into the winter months, it’s especially important that we work together to reduce the spread of illness and ensure students are ready to learn each day.

Our campus is taking proactive steps to support the health and safety of students, families, and staff as we begin the new semester. From enhanced cleaning practices to encouraging healthy habits, we are focused on creating a safe and supportive learning environment for everyone.

What Our Campus Is Doing to Help Prevent the Spread of Illness

Our school is committed to creating a clean and healthy environment for students and staff. Throughout flu season, we are:

  • Sanitizing high-touch areas such as doorknobs, desks, and classroom materials throughout the school day
  • Encouraging frequent handwashing and hand sanitizer use for both students and staff
  • Monitoring student health and notifying families if a child develops symptoms while at school

These practices are part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a healthy learning environment as students return for the spring semester.

According to health experts, the flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. Symptoms may include:

  • Fever and chills
  • Cough and sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle aches, fatigue, or headaches

How families can help:

  • Keep children home if they have flu symptoms or a fever.
  • Encourage good handwashing habits, especially after coughing, sneezing, or using the restroom.
  • Remind students to cover coughs/sneezes with a tissue or elbow.
  • Do not send children back to school until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
  • Consider getting your child vaccinated against the flu if they haven’t already.

By staying informed and taking preventive steps, we can reduce the spread of illness and help ensure students are able to focus on learning throughout the spring semester. Small actions like practicing good hygiene and keeping students home when they’re sick can make a big difference in keeping our entire school community healthy.

We appreciate our families’ continued partnership in keeping our campus healthy!
