Lisa T. Garza earned a Bachelor of Art Degree in Bilingual Education and Elementary Education from Houston Baptist University in Houston, Texas. She later earned a Masters in Reading from the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. Soon after, she earned her Principal Certificate.
Before joining IDEA Public Schools, Lisa was a principal at Cleckler-Heald Elementary in the Weslaco Independent School District from 2005-2010. Prior to that she served as an assistant principal for 3 years and a teacher for 11 years. Over her tenure at IDEA, Lisa has served as Area Superintendent, Executive Director and Vice President of Schools.
As Chief Schools Officer, Lisa leads IDEA Public Schools’ vision and strategy to ensure all students graduate college ready and our schools earn an “A” Rating. The Chief Schools Officer manages Executive Directors and Regional Superintendents and is responsible for setting and embodying IDEA culture in our schools.
Lisa lives in Weslaco, Texas, with her husband Frank. Together, they are raising three children, Anaisa, Anthony, and Isaiah. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and scrapbooking.
