Our Approach

Welcome to IDEA Public Schools

The Opportunity Gap

Every child can and will succeed if given the opportunity.

No student’s potential should be limited by the color of their skin, where they live, household income. Yet for 40 years this fundamental inequity has been allowed to continue.

IDEA Public Schools is committed to a vision of College For All Children.

Through our unique curriculum and our college support model comprising people, programs, and culture, we are closing the opportunity gap and increasing levels of achievement by preparing students from underserved communities for success in college and citizenship.

IDEA prepares all students for college and beyond.

IDEA Public Schools’ approach to education is focused on college preparation for all children. Our elementary curriculum includes a hybrid learning model known as BetterIDEA, in which all elementary students participate. Our college prep curriculum focuses on college preparation across all subjects.

Since our first high school graduating class twelve years ago, we have achieved 100% college acceptance among our seniors as well as a college graduation rate five times the national average for students from low-income communities.

In addition, our full-scale high schools are ranked among the very best and most challenging schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and The Washington Post.

IDEA believes that character and culture are critical components to our students’ success in school and life.

IDEA students, staff, and families hold themselves and each other to the high expectations and core values that guide all IDEA Public Schools.
