IDEA’s prestigious Founding Teacher Fellowship is a unique opportunity for individuals who are looking to transform education for children in IDEA’s brand new regions. The one-year fellowship takes place on an award-winning IDEA campus in an existing region where fellows:
Applications for the Tampa Bay, Greater Houston and Permian Basin Founding Teacher Fellowship are now open. Hiring will be conducted from January through April.
IDEA is currently recruiting Founding Teacher Fellows that will become founding teachers in Houston when the region opens for the 2020-21 school year. Individuals who live or have lived in or near Houston will have priority in the selection process.
Fellows with under two years of lead teaching experience will be co-teachers alongside a highly effective mentor teacher in elementary or middle school grades. Grade and content will be based on availability and fAellow preference. These fellows will also participate in the Relay Teaching Residency working towards their Texas teaching certification and Master of Arts in Teaching. The Relay Residency requires weekly evening classes and occasional Saturday school.
Fellows with two or more years of lead teaching experience will be interventionists on an existing IDEA campus. Grade ranges and content will be based on availability and fellow preference. Experienced fellows will also participate in IDEA leadership programming that puts teachers on a track for school leadership.
During summer of 2019, fellows will relocate to an existing IDEA region to train and work during the 2019-20 school year in a current IDEA school. Fellows will learn their exact regional and school placement by May of 2019. When the one-year fellowship is completed, fellows will then relocate to Houston as founding teachers and/or leaders for the 2020-21 school year.
Housing will not be provided for fellows, however relocation stipends of up to $4,000 ($5,000 for families) will be provided to assist in the move. Fellows will be expected to have secured housing by July 1st 2019. Official dates of summer training will be provided in March of 2019.
If requirements of the fellowship are passed, fellows are guaranteed a teaching position in IDEA Greater Houston. School leadership positions such as grade level lead, academic counselor, and assistant principal roles are subject to founding principal discretion.
Fellows with under two years of lead teaching experience will receive a co-teaching salary of $30,000, a Texas teacher certification, a Master’s of Arts in Teaching, full health benefits, and relocation stipends up to $8,000 ($10,000 for families) to assist in the relocation to and from the placement IDEA region.
