FAQs

IDEA is currently recruiting Founding Teacher Fellows that will become founding teachers in Jacksonville (2022 – 2023). Individuals who live or have lived in or near this region will have priority in the selection process.

Fellows with under two years of lead teaching experience will be co-teachers alongside a highly effective mentor teacher in elementary or middle school grades. Grade and content will be based on availability and fellow preference. Florida fellows who participate in the Relay Teaching Residency are put on a path to receive a teaching certification and Masters of Arts in Teaching in their home state, following the program. The Relay Residency requires weekly evening classes and occasional Saturday school.

Fellows with two or more years of lead teaching experience will be interventionists on an existing IDEA campus. Grade ranges and content will be based on availability and fellow preference. Experienced fellows will also participate in IDEA leadership programming that puts teachers on a track for school leadership.

During summer of 2021, fellows will relocate to an existing IDEA region to train and work during the 2021-2022 school year in a current IDEA school. Fellows will learn their exact region and school placement by May of 2021. When the one-year fellowship is completed, fellows will then relocate to their respective region as founding teachers and/or grade team leaders for the 2022-2023 school year.

Housing will not be provided for fellows, however relocation stipends of up to $4,000 ($5,000 for families) will be provided to assist in the move. Fellows will be expected to have secured housing by July 1st2021. Official dates of summer training will be provided in March of 2021.

If requirements of the fellowship are passed, fellows are guaranteed a teaching position in IDEA Jacksonville. School leadership positions such as grade level lead, academic counselor, and assistant principal roles are subject to founding principal discretion.

Fellows with under two years of lead teaching experience will receive a co-teaching salary of $30,000, full health benefits, and relocation stipends up to $8,000 ($10,000 for families) to assist in the relocation to and from the placement IDEA region.

Fellows with two or more years’ lead teaching experience will receive a teaching salary based on experience (see more details here), full health benefits, and relocation stipends of up to $8,000 ($10,000 for families) to assist in the relocation to and from the placement IDEA region.
