October 15-19 is National School Lunch Week (NSLW), and IDEA is celebrating in a big way! This annual celebration raises awareness about the availability of the National School Lunch Program. NSLW is a chance to increase lunch participation and give our community visibility of our healthy school lunch program. Every day we are doing something to promote eating a healthy lunch in a creative way.
IDEA’s Southern Louisiana region will celebrate with the theme of “School Lunch: LOTS 2 LOVE.”
This year’s theme in Texas is “LEVEL UP with a healthy school lunch.” To celebrate NSLW, each day will have a theme lunch and a tasty and nutritious featured item.
- Mario Madness Monday: Firecracker sweet potato fries
- Pac Man Tuesday: Confetti corn salad and chickpea salad
- Star Wars Wednesday: Ranch green beans
- Track and Field Thursday: Roasted ranch chicken
In 2018, IDEA Public School campuses were named among America’s Healthiest Schools. This is a great honor because we know that the development of a child includes emotional and physical health. And a large part of health and wellness pertains to nutritious meals for every student.
We partner with communities to improve the health and well-being of whole families. Through our Healthy Kids Here program, we are committed to offering well-balanced, farm fresh and nutritious meals to every student and encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle. The program educates the whole IDEA family on health, wellness and nutrition, increases access to healthy food, and hosts 5Ks in all of our regions to get the whole family involved in healthy activities while also raising money for college scholarships. We also have three school farms that provided more than 9,890 pounds of vegetables to our cafeterias and communities last year.
