COVID-19 Campus Testing Program | IDEA Public Schools

IDEA’s COVID-19 Testing Program Available at All Campuses

IDEA Public Schools is continuing its COVID-19 Testing Program for the 2021-22 school year for all campuses in Texas and Louisiana to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 on campus. Since the TDEM/TEA testing program’s launch in November 2020, IDEA has administered over 23,000 tests to students and staff.

As we wait on local governments to roll out their updated school-based COVID-19 Testing programs in October, we are prioritizing the use of our limited supply of COVID-19 test kits for those students and staff who begin developing symptoms throughout the school day in Texas and Louisiana; we will test symptomatic students in Florida.

Below you can find our most frequently asked questions:

Does IDEA have a COVID testing program this year?

Yes, we are currently offering rapid COVID testing at all IDEA campuses in Texas for students and staff. We are offering testing through our partnership in Louisiana for students and staff. Florida students can access testing through our telemedicine partnership.

Who will be performing testing at campuses?

Each IDEA Texas campus will have three COVID Test Administrators: the campus health aide, a newly added health and safety monitor and an additional administrator identified by campus leadership. Currently in Florida and Louisiana, testing is performed by the campus health clinic.

Who is eligible to be tested on campus?

Currently, we are offering testing for symptomatic students and staff.

Can we test all students or staff on campus?

No, we will only be using tests for symptomatic individuals. If we receive additional test supplies, we may be able to expand to those identified as close contacts. We will communicate any changes to campus testing admins and then externally with families.

As an important reminder, testing negative using a rapid antigen test WILL NOT clear you to return to campus if you’re experiencing symptoms. You must remain symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to campus. Please keep your child at home if they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and contact your local health care provider.

We ask all families and staff to continue to follow IDEA’s health screening guidelines to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms at home before arriving on campus or at the bus stop each day. Please review our COVID-19 Self-Screening Guide for IDEA Students and Staff for additional guidance.
