IDEA is excited to celebrate and recognize National School Lunch Week (NSLW) from October 12-16.
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. NSLW was first recognized in 1962 to promote the importance of healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.
The COVID-19 pandemic has without a doubt shown just how incredibly important school meals are for students and their families. IDEA’s Child Nutrition Program team has served over five million curbside meals to students and families this year.
During NSLW, IDEA is highlighting the healthy food available daily to scholars at all IDEA campuses and thank the incredible staff who have dedicated their time, service, and efforts toward keeping our scholars healthy, full, and ready to learn.
This year, 59 schools in Texas were listed by The Alliance for a Healthier Generation as America’s Healthiest Schools for 2020! Schools are recognized for their work prioritizing nutrition, physical activity, and strong wellness policies.
IDEA had more schools listed than any other school district, making us the healthiest school district in the nation. Through our Healthy Kids Here program, we are committed to offering well-balanced, farm-fresh, and nutritious meals to every student and encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle.
In an ongoing effort to support the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, every IDEA campus is serving curbside meals to all children 18 years and under. This means that your child does not need to attend an IDEA school to receive free meals daily (breakfast, lunch, and supper).
