San Antonio, TX (Nov. 4, 2018) – David Robinson and Tom Torkelson, CEO and founder of IDEA Public Schools, will formally announce the gifting of more than $500,000 to IDEA Carver.
The gift, made possible by Friends of Carver Academy/IDEA Public Schools, a supporting organization of the San Antonio Area Foundation, will provide financial support for college-bound seniors graduating from the San Antonio high school. The gift is comprised of two programs – the David Robinson Fellowship and the David Robinson Scholarship.
The fellowship, a total of $192,000, will be awarded to 10 graduating seniors, whose names will be announced at the Nov. 3 news conference. The fellowship consists of a mentor program by Robinson paired with six sessions of enriching co-curricular and leadership development classes in addition to a college scholarship. The goal of the fellowship is to foster success and graduation from a Tier I or Tier II college or university within four years. Funds can be used for tuition, books, living expenses or anything else related to the student’s educational journey.
The David Robinson Scholarship will provide 25 students at IDEA Carver a $2,000 renewable college scholarship over four years. In addition, IDEA Public schools has committed to match and fund others in the Class of 2019 who would like to attend college. This ensures that every graduating student has the financial capability to attend their dream school.
