PRESS RELEASE

Four IDEA Students Selected for Full-Ride Scholarships at Top Universities through QuestBridge Program

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS (December 6, 2018) – IDEA Public Schools is pleased to announce that four of our Class of 2018 scholars have been selected for full-ride scholarships through the highly selective QuestBridge National College Match program.

The QuestBridge National College Match program is a college and scholarship application process that helps outstanding low-income high school seniors gain admission and full four-year scholarships to the nation’s most selective colleges. QuestBridge accomplishes this by partnering with these schools to identify and support students who otherwise may not apply to leading colleges.

Applicants must submit their transcripts, test scores, and letters of recommendation while ranking the colleges of their choice to be considered for early admission and a full college scholarship.

College Match Scholarships, which are provided by participating colleges, cover the full cost of tuition, room and board, are loan-free, and require no parental contribution.

“We are extremely proud of these scholars for earning this prestigious honor,” says JoAnn Gama, President and Superintendent of IDEA Public Schools. “I think this is a real testament of the hard work of our students and teachers.”

In 2018, out of 16,248 applications, 6,507 students were selected as National College Match Finalists. Finalists must exhibit high academic achievement and qualify financially. Of this group, nearly 1,000 students were selected to receive scholarships including four IDEA students.

In total, IDEA Public Schools had 16 finalists and 4 matched students –a 25% match rate! Our early admission full-ride College Match scholarship recipients include:

University of Notre Dame – Rolando Perez, IDEA Frontier

Duke University – Francisco Banda, IDEA McAllen

University of Chicago – Juan Torres, IDEA Quest

University of Notre Dame – Kevin Olvera, IDEA Quest
