Q: What is the cost to attend an IDEA school?

A: IDEA Public Schools are TUITION-FREE and open to all students.



Q: Who can apply? Are there any requirements for admission?
A: IDEA is a public school. There are NO admission requirements to attend an IDEA school. In order for your child to attend you must submit an application to one of our schools. 



Q: Can I apply to more than one IDEA school?
A: Yes you can; however, we recommend to only apply to the schools you are willing to drive to and from in case of an emergency.

Q: Why do students need to apply?
A: IDEA is limited in the number of students we can accept per grade level per year by campus. When there are more student applications than spots available, we are required by law to have a random selection.

Q: What is required for an application to be considered complete? Do I need to provide my immigration status?
A: Your immigration status is not required and Texas state law prohibits us from asking that information. The application will ask for the student’s name, contact information, birthday, as well as parent/guardian information. The process is simple and straightforward and should take you no more than 10 minutes to complete.

Q: What are the advantages of attending IDEA Public Schools?


A: IDEA provides a safe learning environment that is academically challenging for all students in grades K-12. We do whatever it takes to ensure all IDEA students are prepared for the rigor of a college education. 





Q: Do you offer extracurricular activities and sports?
A: Yes. Each IDEA school sponsors a variety of student activities, ranging from basketball, soccer, robotics, Student Council, newspaper, etc. Activities vary across campuses.

Q: Do you offer transportation?



Austin and Rio Grande Valley: Transportation is available to IDEA students from bus stop locations near each IDEA school.

  • San Antonio: Bus vouchers are provided at NO COST to IDEA San Antonio families.

Q: Do any students receive preference when applying?
A: Under state law, siblings of current students are given preference to attend an IDEA school.

Q: How will I know if my child is randomly selected to attend IDEA?
A: Each IDEA campus will contact all randomly selected students starting April 2, 2016. We will contact students on the wait list, as spots become available throughout the year.

Q: If randomly selected, how soon can my child transfer from one IDEA campus to another IDEA location?

A: Students who are randomly selected to attend a specific IDEA campus must attend that campus for one full school year prior to requesting a transfer to another IDEA campus.

Q: What are the school hours at IDEA?

A: Students K-12 are in school from 7:45am to 3:45pm.

Q: Does IDEA provide special education services?
A: IDEA is a public school, and as such, is required by the State of Texas to serve all students.

Q: Why are IDEA students required to wear a uniform?
A: IDEA creates a culture in which students can focus their energy on their academics and not on what they are wearing.
